Andy Leads the End of the "Mingle Game"
When I am given a longer period of time for an icebreaker session, this activity is amazing. Taking about 10 minutes it gets the group to meet four different people. With one person, you come up with a secret handshake, the 2nd, a special high five, the 3rd, a dance move, and the 4th, a funny face. After each round of meeting a new person, I yell out one of those four categories and they have to find their new friend and give their special greeting. By the end, as seen on this video, everyone has four new friends each with a unique greeting. The results are hilarious bedlam! Filmed in 2012 at Camp Olympia, Muskoka in Ontario, the audience made of student leaders from high schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

Andy Leads the "Gotcha" Game
|
Along with Dexterity Check and Ohh Ahh, this is my favourite icebreaker. This works in rows or in a circle. I first learned it I think from speaker Norm Hull at the Arkansas state conference in 1999. Filmed in 2009 at the Ontario Student Leadership Conference, OSLC, in London.

Andy Leads a Dance Routine to the Song "Life is a highway"
Filmed at the New Brunswick student leadership conference, 2009. Inspired by a dance routine I saw at the Canadian Presbyterian Youth Conference in 2006, adding some of my own moves. Hit the dance floor and add your own moves!

Andy Leads the "King's spirit dance"
The setting was Chino Valley High School, Arizona, spring 2014. With extra time and a great group of hilarious and motivated student leaders, I taught them the spirit dance from my King's College university days. Having a unique dance routine for your school is a great way to build tradition and spirit. Feel free to borrow ideas from ours! I dedicate this upload to my fellow King's College Orientation week leaders who were part of building school spirit during the O-weeks of 1990, 1991 and 1992. I was an Orientation leader all 3 years, including being the coordinator in my final year. I am Purple and Proud always!
